Mere class -Year Three
The Maori word for a
"fighting club" is Mere. It is
traditionally made in
greenstone. Worn as a
pendant, it represents
strength and determination.

The Mere class is for those children who are aged 5-6 and are in their final year at Soen
English Preschool. This is a full time course (23 hours per week).

Year three continues with the Reading and Language program, further develops the math
program and introduces a Social Studies program.
Students will be invited to sit the Cambridge Young Learners of English Starters Exam
in February of each year.
Our  math program
introduces various math
concepts through games,
songs, manipulatives,
worksheets, readers as
well as take home
activities. Lots of fun.
The Social Studies program looks at
school, why we have rules, our place on
Earth, families, people around the world,
customs and jobs. Our Japanese culture
is positively compared with other
cultures.
The Reading and
Language Arts
program includes
guided reading,
explicit phonics
instruction including
songs & rhymes and
phonic awareness
activities.

Starters exam preparation class has
lots of fun filled listening, speaking,
reading and writing activities to help
prepare for February's exam.
